Some insurers provide incentives for teenage drivers to take up defensive driving courses to
build-up their driving skills. Teenage driver that have a genuine driving certificate from Driving Standards Agency (DSA) will enjoy a reduction
in their premiums assuming all else stays the same. You have to check with your insurer to determine which programs they recognize before
actually enrolling in one.
Another strange factor that some insurance companies use to determine your insurance premium is
your GPA score. The logic behind it is that if a teenager is more focused or more intelligent then it is more likely that they will be more
careful behind the wheel of the vehicle and be of less risk to others and also the insurance company. Depending on your grade you can receive a
discount of as much as 10% off your existing premium. Do check with your insurer as more companies are using your GPA score as a factor in
determining your insurance premiums.
There are also some tricky strategies that can be employed to get a lower insurance premium
too. You can get yourself listed under your parent’s plan under “additional drivers” which often is much cheaper than you having to get insured
separately.
